People with disabilities not only have to deal with the effects of their disabling conditions, but they have to deal with barriers that hinder their independence and personal satisfaction. All-Around Home Health’s support teams promote independence for each individual. Whether it is a small obstacle or a large one, team support can make a difference.
Have you ever heard “two is better than one?” Having people help you with improving your independence is a great asset. Wheelchair assistance, help with transferring, ambulation, and even repositioning are personal care needs that can provide independence. Pain can often bring depression; improving independence can be a ‘joy restorer’.
Individualized & Personalized Care
Care is always personal. Many people with disabilities do not like to ask family or friends for care. After all, we have all been taught that some things are private. So, if and when a disability causes care needs, having a personal caregiver provides dignity and a feeling of being in control even though someone else is helping.
At All-Around Home Health an individualized service/care plan is written to decide the care a person needs, and to decide how the care should be done. Personal Care includes bathing, dressing, grooming, skin and hair care, and medicine reminders, as well as, mobility need assistance. Individualized care is good, but individualized and personalized care means the person gets to select what is done, and how it is done. Both are needed to give care that promotes independence.
Home Management and Transportation
Disabilities can often take away from pleasures of life. How easy it is to become overwhelmed with household chores that can no longer be completed. Life shouldn’t be about what we can’t do, but what we can. A Care Manager can help your caregiver organize the household so that other priorities can move up on the list…like doing what you enjoy! Transportation can take you to those places. Maybe it’s just a trip to the park, or to a social or community event. Transportation can be used for practical trips, also, like a trip to the doctor. You are in charge!
While true companionship is not a programmed event, using attributes of both the client and caregiver a better chance of companionship occurs. Our clients are welcome to request and describe what they would like in a caregiver, and we will work to find that person. One thing is for sure: Life is better with a friend, and the sun shines brighter with someone who cares!
